Depends. Medically, the glycerin used for the base of vaping fluids is the same stuff we use in many nebulizer treatments. That means doctors prescribe the stuff specifically FOR people with lung issues. Very safe.
Nicotine is a harmful chemical; it’s similar to caffeine in terms of negative impacts on the body, raising blood pressure and reducing peripheral circulation a small amount. Vaping nicotine is similar to drinking coffee or tea, in this regard.
The problem comes from additives. People are tossing all sorts of flavorings and colorings into vape fluid. Some of those are extremely safe. Some of them are extremely not safe. We don’t yet have adequate data on which is which.
The recent deaths from vaping were due to black market materials, mostly cannibis vapes, which had additives that were extremely toxic. The answer is to use the FDA to put out guidelines on what can be included in vape fluid, so that it can be regulated the same way coffee is. Then it will be about as harmful as coffee.
